Wikipedia Entity Eligibility Checklist
15 items to assess whether your brand qualifies for a Wikipedia article — and how to draft one if it does.
The full checklist
- Verify your brand has been mentioned in at least 3 independent reliable sources
Wikipedia's notability standard requires significant coverage in independent reliable sources (news, books, journals). - Confirm those sources are not press releases or company-authored content
Wikipedia rejects sources where the company influenced the coverage. - Check WP:NCORP (Notability — corporations) and WP:NWEB carefully
Wikipedia's notability bar for companies is high; read the actual policy. - Identify 5-10 independent reliable sources for your draft
Each major claim needs a source. Without sources, the article gets deleted. - Write the draft in neutral encyclopedic tone (no marketing language)
Wikipedia rejects promotional language — it must read like encyclopedia content. - Disclose any conflict of interest (if you work for the company)
WP:COI rules require disclosure. Failing to disclose risks article deletion plus account ban. - Use the Articles for Creation process (don't publish directly to mainspace)
AfC gives you a reviewer's feedback before the article goes live, dramatically improving acceptance rate. - Include a clear infobox (Infobox company)
Standard format helps reviewers and signals encyclopedic format. - Include sections: History, Products, Reception, Funding, References
Standard structure for company articles. - Cite every factual claim with inline references
Wikipedia content without inline citations gets deleted. - Add the brand to Wikidata (much easier than Wikipedia)
Wikidata accepts notable entities at a much lower bar; even small companies often qualify. - Add sameAs links from Wikidata to your social profiles
Strengthens entity-graph connections that AI engines use. - Don't pay editors — paid editing is increasingly detected and penalized
Use legitimate Articles for Creation; pay-to-publish services routinely lead to bans. - If rejected, study the reviewer's notes carefully and improve sources
First rejection is normal; substantive sources fix most issues. - Once accepted, monitor the article for vandalism and update annually
Wikipedia articles need maintenance; abandoned articles drift toward inaccuracy.
